February 7, 1969Car Distribution Bulletin 12-6 is sent to all Pontiac dealers to inform them that the 1969 “Trans Am” option becomes available for dealer order with production to start approximately April 1, 1969, in the Norwood and Van Nuys assembly plants. The “Trans Am” Option could be ordered by writing Sales Code 322 (UPC Code WS-4) in the “order accessories” section of the Firebird Wholesale Car Order form. On this bulletin the “Trans Am” package included the Firebird 400 equipment with the following additions:

 

1) Code 348 400 HO Engine (L-74)

2) Code 611 Hood Ram Air Inlet (T-42)

3) Heavy Duty Stabilizer Shaft and Bushings

4) Code 511 Power Front Disc Brakes

5) Code 502 Power Steering Variable Ratio

6) Code MR Tires F-70 x 14 White Side Wall Fiberglass

7) Rear Airfoil

8) Code 621 Ride and Handling Springs and Shocks

9) Brake Scoops on Front Fender

10) Sports Steering Wheel

11) Full length Stripes on Hood, Roof and Deck Lid

12) “Trans Am” Decals on Rear Quarters and Airfoil

13) “Blacked-Out” Grille

14) Specific Hood with longer scoops

15) 3.55 Axle Ratio

16) Color – Cameo White with Blue Stripes is the only color available

 

 

March 7, 1969Car Distribution Bulletin 12-11 is sent to all Pontiac dealers to inform them that there have been changes to the Firebird “Trans Am” option (Sales Code 322) (UPC Code WS-4). On this bulletin the revised “Trans Am” option is as follows:

April 1, 1969 – C.L. Copeland, Sales Promotional Manager, sends Pontiac Sales Blueprint 69-53 to all Pontiac dealers. This promotion reads:

 

THE FIREBIRD TRANS-AM — PONTIAC’S NEWEST

 

Pontiac has announced its newest high-performance entry in the sports car field — the Firebird Trans Am — continuing Pontiac’s tradition of offering ultimate performance

 

The Trans Am will be offered as a Firebird Option, which includes distinctive styling features sure to please the enthusiast — 60″ Air Foil spanning the rear deck — special hood with full length, functional Hood Scoops — blacked out grille — and special “Trans Am” decals on the front fenders and rear air foil. Also, to insure distinctive identification, the Trans Am will be produced only in Cameo White with Blue Rally Stripes.

 

The performance muscle is supplied by the Firebird 400 HO, 335 horsepower engine or an optional 400 Ram Air IV (Sales Code 347). These engines are available with the heavy-duty 3-speed manual floor shift, 4-speed manual shift or the Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission.

 

The Trans Am standard equipment also includes —

Future Firebird order forms will include the Trans Am Option, Sales Code 322, and you will be advised of the price structure as soon as released.
